The decorative protrusions of this pendant were created in sheet gold by hammering and beating, a method known as repoussé. A fringe of spangles decorates the lower edge of the pendant. Gold and gold ornaments were obtained through trading items such as sandalwood, horses and pearls. Jewellery was an indication of status and was usually owned by aristocratic families.
