This four-armed sculpture of the goddess Prajna holds 'abhaya hasta' (gesture of assurance and protection) with two right hands. One of her left hands depicts the gesture of clasping a rosary while in the other, she holds a manuscript. Her crown and earrings are prominent and are characteristic of Nepalese style. In the Buddhist pantheon, Prajnaparamita is a feminine 'bodhisattva', the embodiment of knowledge, originially conceived as the 'shakti' (power) of Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of compassion. 'Prajna' means knowledge. As a personification of knowledge, this feminine concept is seen as 'shakti' of many Buddhist deities.
