Carving of a standing figure

This carved wood image of a female figure, recovered from the water-logged regions of the Mekong Delta, is in a fragmented condition. This example is considered fairly small (51.5cm) as the sizes of these images can range up to several meters in height. India exerted great influence during this period when Hinduism and Buddhism were introduced by traveling monks and merchants. Carved wood figures found over the years typically include images of a standing Buddha wearing clinging monastic robes in the Indian Gupta style.
