This standing figure wears a long, flowing robe with hands hidden in the folds of his wide sleeves. The body is lacquered and painted with designs in red pigments. The figure probably represents a male attendant and served as burial ware or ‘mingqi'. The custom of burying objects with the deceased stems from the belief in life after death.
