A group of Malay women are depicted demonstrating various aspects of the art of weaving. On the left, the women are working on small handlooms while the rest are engaged in delicate embroidery. The photograph was carefully arranged to portray as much as possible. This is made evident by the various examples of embroidered silks and cottons placed behind the group of women. Photographic compositions such as this were popular souvenirs for visitors in Singapore and Malaysia.
