This figurine shows Li Yuhe, the male lead of the political opera, 'The Red Lantern', standing resolutely with clenched fists. It highlights his steadfast character and strength of spirit even when faced with enemies. The tale of The Red Lantern unfolds during the Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945), and revolves around Li, a railway worker, his daughter and his mother. Li, who uses his red lantern as a signal in his daily course of work also utilises it as a communication device with underground Communist fighters.
