In the story of Tiger Mountain set in the late 1940s, Yang is a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) scout platoon leader. He infiltrates a bandits’ lair (in Tiger Mountain) and obtains intelligence that enables his comrades to eventually attack and capture the bandits.
