This simplified form of a bird, was probably moulded in two parts and the vase added separately to the back, to provide a mouth. The extensive and rich underglaze blue painted decoration includes wing feathers, tail plumes and facial features. These were probably painted quite carefully, although firing conditions made the glaze run.
