Kendi is a water drinking vessel that is held by the neck when it is filled or poured. This kendi, in the form of a frog, is decorated with floral motifs on a spotted blue ground. The tubular neck comprises partly of a silver mount, and a cap, which is linked by two chains to a flower-shaped stopper at the spout.This piece highlights the trade in Chinese ceramics. Kendi, modelled in the form of frogs, were exported to Europe, the Middle East and other parts of Asia. The silver mount is of Turkish origin and illustrates the value accorded to Chinese porcelain by their foreign owners.
