This is a photograph of Malay College Kuala Kangsar. The prestigious all-boys school was established on 1 January 1905. Also known as the ‘Eton of the East’, it was founded mainly to educate the Malay elites to prepare them for employment in the colonial administrative service. Heavily criticised by the public for being elitist, the college still made a significant impact on society by producing outstanding men such as Dato’ Onn Jaafar and Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, both of whom played key roles in Malaysian politics.
