This black glazed jar features a bulbous body and two flat handles. The vertical ribs around the mid section were produced by trails of pure white slip (liquid clay). The rich black glaze was produced with a heavy concentration of iron-oxide. However, the tone and colour varies. For example, where it is thinly applied, the ribs stand out as almost white, while in other areas the glaze is brown.
