This porcelain figure of Guanyin has an elaborate appearance. She is depicted here standing amongst waves holding a Buddhist Sutra (text) in her right hand. Her left hand is broken. She is wearing a necklace of beads and is carved with voluminous drapery. Her hair is knotted under the hood. The figure is covered in a creamy glaze.Guanyin or Guanshiyin is the 'Bodhisattva who hears the cries of the world'.
