Cavenagh Bridge spanning the busy Singapore River

Manufactured in Scotland in 1868 by P.W.Maclellen of Glasgow, Cavenagh Bridge was assembled by Indian convict labourers in 1869. It functioned as a link between government offices in Empress Place and Commercial Square. Years later, only light traffic was allowed on Cavenagh Bridge as the nearby Anderson Bridge, built in 1910, helped ease its load.
