This life-size yali may have been used as a vahana (vehicle/mount) for Durga or Shiva and Parvati. Yali is a mythical animal, largely leonine in its physiognomy. In this representation, one sees an elongated body with a dynamic gait. The natural grain of wood is seen in the sculpture.
