This headdress would have been worn by a Peranakan page girl (penapek) in Indonesia. It is decorated with gilt silver ornaments of deity motifs. Such headdresses were not only worn by children during wedding ceremonies, but also during special occasions such as the lantern festival. The Chinese Peranakan community in Indonesia is mainly found in the coastal city of Palembang and the north coast cities of Java. They were a migrant community and have also adopted many local Javanese practices.
