These embroidered forearm attachments were slipped over the garment when offering prayers and paying respects to elders. The sleeves would cover the folded arms so that a continuous band of colour was formed.Wedding couples in Singapore and Malacca were usually flanked by a page boy and page girl as seen here, while a wedding couple from Penang would usually have a pair of page boy and page girl. There were also regional differences in the style of wedding garments, jewellery and headdress used by the bridal couple.
