This lacquer box is used for the clothes of a bride. It is used by Sumatra Malays but probably of Chinese origin and make.Palembang Chinese craftsmen made an entire range of items from small wooden containers and woven baskets to sireh sets and large ceremonial serving trays. The wares they made were a hybrid of Malay, Minangkabau and Chinese influences and were widely traded across Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula.
