The pavilion at the Singapore Cricket Club

The two-storeyed structure, shown in this photograph, is the third clubhouse of the Singapore Cricket Club which was built in 1884. This structure survives to this day with two wings added in the 1920s. The first clubhouse had been a simple square hut built under the angsana trees at the western corner of the Esplanade; a second clubhouse was constructed on the site in 1877. Established in 1852, the Singapore Cricket Club started out with only 28 members before expanding to around 3000 members by 1975.
