Built in 1929, Capitol Theatre is located at the junction of North Bridge Road and Stamford Road. It was built by the Namazie brothers, a Persian family, on the site of the former Sailors Home. The Shaw Organisation acquired the theatre in the 1940s and turned it into a cinema. The neoclassical building screened its last movie on 29 December 1998 before it was handed over to the government for preservation.
