Situated at the corner of High Street and Esplanade Road, the new building of Hotel de l'Europe, as depicted in the postcard, was opened in 1905. The original hotel building, established by J. Casteleyns in 1857, was demolished in 1900. The new building, which cost a million dollars to build, offered 120 bedrooms and a large roof-garden.
