Europeans at a garden party

The photograph depicts a group of Europeans enjoying a garden party. The small European community in Singapore enjoyed a comfortable life as they usually occupied a more respectable position with a higher salary than back home. However, the sense of loneliness, coupled with the fewer number of European women in Singapore compared to the men, led to most of these bachelors opting to share a bungalow, as seen in the background of the picture. This engendered a sense of camaraderie among the Europeans.
