This 'qingbai' bowl has carved lotus leaf decorations on the outside. Qingbai glaze derives its name from the characteristic icy, bluish-white glaze. The bowl has an unglazed rim, which was inverted during firing. This type of bowls were also fitted with a metal band to enhance their appearance and value.Qingbai wares were developed during the Song dynasty (960-1279). Produced in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, they were exported in large quantities to Southeast Asia from the 12th century onwards. This bowl is a typical example of export tradeware from the Southern Song kilns. Many similar bowls have been found in Indonesia.
