Opened on 12 March 1910, Anderson Bridge was named after Sir John Anderson, the Governor of the Straits Settlement from 1904 to 1911. The opening of Anderson Bridge helped to ease the traffic load over Cavenagh Bridge as heavy traffic such as motor cars and electric trams were able to cross the Singapore river at its lowest point over Anderson Bridge.
