A house at Tanjong Katong

This photograph depicts a house in full view at the old Tanjong Katong, which had stretched from Upper East Coast Road to Tanjong Rhu. Tanjong Katong means 'turtle point' - Katong being a species of sea-turtle that is now extinct. In the foreground are three children and behind them is a large house with a garden and coconut trees around the dwelling. A vast coconut estate called the Grove Estate, which belonged to Thomas Dunman, Singapore's first Superintendent of Police, was located along the stretch from Tanjong Katong Road to the former Grove Road which is now known as Mountbatten Road.
