This green-glazed lobed ewer has an applied floral decoration on the shoulder, a small spout with spiral motif and a flat strap handle attached to the shoulder. It is covered in an ivory-white glaze. The frequent appearance of the lotus motif reflects the rising importance of Buddhism, which was established as the state religion in Vietnam during the Ly dynasty. During this period, the Vietnamese potters moved away from making copies of Chinese forms towards adaptations that were more unique to the local ceramic tradition.
