This ankle-length cheongsam was created for and inspired by the return of Hong Kong to China. In that year, international brands such as Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana designed garments with Chinese elements to commemorate the event. The use of a cheongsam collar and side slit reflects Hong Kong Chinese’s cultural resonance. Although only plain buttons were used, the fur trim at the cuffs and hem and the pearl-studded collar add a touch of glamour to the dress.
