Fuchsia dress designed by John Galliano for Dior

This dress is from Dior’s autumn 2009 ready-to-wear collection. The design of the dress is inspired by the cheongsam. This dress is significant as it shows how the West interprets the traditional Asian garment and also its appeal to both the West and the East. Other Western designers besides John Galliano who had taken inspiration from the cheongsam include Christian Lacroix and Emanuel Ungaro. John Galliano (b. 1960) was appointed the chief designer at Dior in 1997. He graduated from Central St. Martin's, College of Art and Design, London in 1984. Galliano is famous for his historically-influenced designs.
