This moulded figure, who stands with clasped hands in front of his chest, served as burial ware or ‘mingqi'. The most striking feature of this figure with white pigments is the elaborate high headdress. Probably a dignitary, the smiling figure wears a long loose robe belted at the waist.The practice of burying objects with the deceased stems from the belief in life after death.
