A Lahu Nyi handwoven shoulder bag come in a variety of embroidered designs. For ceremonial occasions, the bags are decorated with silver buttons, coins and have long thread tassels across the bottom. Similar kinds of clothing accessories and domestic items are used by the various hilltribe communities in northern Thailand. Brightly coloured shoulder bags are used by men and women. There are several sub-groups of Lahu in Thailand, including the Black Lahu (Lahu Na), Red Lahu (Lahu Nyi ) and Yellow Lahu (Lahu Shi). The origins of the colour distinctions are not clear, and not every group can be identified by the colour of their dress.
