Si Jing (pen name of Ng Soo Lui) was a prolific female writer in the Chinese community. Born in Singapore in 1934, she has written extensively on her childhood and life in Chinatown. Si Jing was also a seamstress when she was a young woman and worked at several tailor shops and factories to earn money for her family. One of the shops was Hua Cheng tailor (seen in the photograph) where she worked until her deteriorating health forced her to stop. Shortly after, she got married, which made her stint at Hua Cheng tailor her last job as a seamstress.
