Si Jing (pen name of Ng Soo Lui) was a prolific female writer in the Chinese community. Born in Singapore in 1934, she has written extensively on her childhood and life in Chinatown. Si Jing and her family occupied one of the units in the building at one time. As it was deemed structurally unsafe, the building was eventually demolished in the 1990s.
