This is a brass kettle. Brass was usually favoured over other metals because it is easier to work with. Everyday objects like plates and kettles were usually made from yellow brass, which is essentially scrap brass. Luxury items like jewellery on the other hand were made from white brass. Most Malay brassware was decorated with geometric and plant motifs, verses from the Quran and other patterns and designs.
