Large-scale Chinese migration to Malaya and Singapore occurred during the 1400s and continued until the 1950s. By the early 20th century, the new generation of Chinese who grew up in Malaya and Singapore no longer had any emotional ties to their parents’ or grandparents’ native country. Instead, they slowly integrated into the host society and eventually participated in the building of their new homelands.
