Ente Veedu, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore

Ente Veedu, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore is a community co-curated exhibition by the Indian Heritage Centre. Ente Veedu means “My Home” in Malayalam, the native language of the Malayalees. Originating from the South Indian state of Kerala, the Malayalees form the second largest sub-group within Singapore's Indian population and are made up of a diverse community including Hindus, Muslims, Syrian Christians and Roman Catholics.

The exhibition covers four zones: From Kerala to Singapore which traces the ancestral roots and migration of the Malayalee community; Ente Singapore: My Singapore, which focuses on the community’s arrival, settlement and contributions in Singapore; In a Malayalee Home which showcases the living traditions practised by Malayalee households; and Malayalees in Singapore which reflects on the community’s evolving notions of home and identity in contemporary Singapore.

Featuring contributions from the Malayalee community in Singapore, Ente Veedu, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore takes visitors on a journey to rediscover the roots of the community and showcases the community’s efforts in preserving its cultural heritage, shaping a distinctive identity and calling Singapore their home.
