Li Bai's Ode to a Beauty in Combined, Regular and Running Scripts

Dr TanTsze Chor’s early education in China laid the foundation for his knowledge of Chinese poetry and calligraphy. He boldly broke away from tradition by using coloured ink and adopting several different scripts within a single piece of work. His writing has a strong sense of ornamentation due to their colours, combination of scripts and sometimes, the use of patterned paper or silk. Here, Dr Tan enhances Li Bai's (702-762) poem with red, green and black inks to describe an encounter with a ravishing beauty. Among other seals, a seal carved by Qi Baishi is used here, to describe the blossoms in Jiangnan in spring.
