This set of bedcover and pillow ends were used to decorate the wedding bed, which is one of the largest pieces of furniture in a wealthy Peranakan home. They are decorated with a pair of phoenixes, symbol of the empress and benevolence, and fertility symbols such as butterflies and flowers in full bloom. The pillow ends were made with beadwork, a technique also used by Peranakan women to sew purses, cigarette cases and slipper covers.
