These ornamented gold buttons, with three identical buttons and one slight different in design, were worn by Peranakan women and are all delicately adorned with beads. Their buttons were usually decorated with filigree gold, gilt silver and diamonds. In contrast, buttons worn by Peranakan men tended to be plain in design, and were usually made of silver, bakelite, ivory, amber and bone. American and European coins were also adopted to become buttons for men.
