This set of five buttons features carved auspicious symbols such as dragons and carps. Such buttons were traditionally worn by Peranakan men. Buttons worn by men were usually made from coins, silver, bakelite, ivory, amber and bone. In contrast, buttons worn by Peranakan women were more ornamented and were decorated with filigree gold, gilt silver and diamonds.
