This double gourd vase is a combination of stylistic fusion - celadon painted with underglaze blue. It was first painted in underglaze blue then green and fired. Celadon is a French term that is used to refer to wares that derives their green-tone from glazes rich in naturally occurring iron-oxide. This type of combination was particularly popular during Emperor Qianlong's reign. The vase is also decorated with auspicious motifs such bat and the character 'shou' which means happiness or good fortune.
