This gold head ornament features gold foils with floral motif which have an ‘en tremblant’ effect as they are set upon stiff coiled wires that move when the wearer moves. Framing the flowers are gold foil leaves attached to the headpiece, creating a cohesive picture of vitality and beauty. Such head ornaments could have been worn by brides or unmarried girls. In Palembang, South Sumatra, the leaf and floral shaped ornaments symbolise fertility as they indicate the vitality of budding plants.
