This gold ornamental hairpin, with floral motifs, is known as ‘korek kuping’, which literally means ‘ear picks’. This was worn by a Indonesian Peranakan woman, who would traditionally tie her waist-long hair into a coiled bun, which would be held in place with hairpins. Peranakan women were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions.
