A very rare piece of Peranakan Chinese furniture, this gilded teak two-tier handkerchief cupboard, is decorated with carved auspicious motifs of the dragon, phoenix, lion dog and flowers. Cupboards such as these, were usually ordered by wealthy Peranakan families who were able to give their daughters more pieces of quality furniture to fill her wedding chamber. This cupboard was used for handkerchiefs as well as clothes.
