The art of marbling or ebru has a long history in Turkey. Marbled papers were used to frame calligraphic pieces as well as to line the interior of leather book bindings. This piece featuring bouquets of violets, was made by a master 'erbucu' (marbler) Alparslan Babaoglu, to line the insides of a book. The paper is cut in the middle with a bouquet in each half.
