Pair of four-tiered ornaments

This pair of ornaments has its four tiers decreasing in diameter and its largest tier is decorated with protrusions. This ornament could have been used as an ear ornament. However, it has been suggested that such round band ornaments with a gap in the loop were perhaps not ear ornaments, but cord clips used to hold cords together around the waist or placed in conical coiffures as depicted on statues. This ornament belongs to the period from 7th to 10th century in Java, which saw a profusion of jewellery forms.
