In Lampung, when children reach marriageable age, the people file their teeth to sharp points – a traditional mark of beauty. The process is considered a right of passage to adulthood. Known as 'sihung' these tooth filing stands are gendered with the male examples such as this one being much more elaborate. More elaborate examples like this example were probably the property of high status families or clans.
