This plain woven cloth with checkered pattern, was used to wrap palm-leaf manuscripts (kammavaca).Woven cloth was and still is made as an act of merit and is used for various Buddhist rituals. In this case the wrapping of precious manuscripts, which might contain the 'vinaya' or monastic laws or dharma texts.
