Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Landscape is a familiar theme in Yeo’s oeuvre. Here, the artist uses the complimentary colours of red and green to depict vibrant foliage which flank the work. Yet despite the bright colours of the leaves and grass, the focus of the work is the void in the centre, a white space that asserts itself almost with a life-force of its own.
