This pair of ear ornaments features the motif of Hanuman, the monkey god in Hinduism. Java by this time was already in contact with India, although the nature of that interaction remains a subject of debate. Compared to the preceding period, ornaments belonging to this period tended to be very densely ornamented and intricate. Such rich designs were proof of the highly attained skills of Javanese craftsmen, who made use of the techniques of chasing, granulation and filigree.
