Minaret of the Sultan’s Mosque

This photograph shows a minaret of the Sultan's Mosque, which was first built around 1824 by Sultan Hussein Shah on a $3000 grant from the East India Company. With the religious building in a state of disrepair by the early 20th century, reconstruction of what is the present day mosque began in 1925. The $200,000 that was needed for the reconstruction was raised by the Trustees of the Mosque and the leading Muslim residents of Singapore.
