This bamboo basket or ‘pungki’ was used to collect and hold charcoal pieces for the cooking of ‘char kway teow’ (fried flat noodles). The dish was cooked over a clay charcoal stove (see XXXX-09122), as charcoal was fed through the small opening at the side.
